'You will love Valparaiso',tells me the hotel owner from Santiago.
The position is special; the city is built on a hill overlooking the port. The English who developed the city before the building of the Panama canal chose to build their houses up high. These are elegant, showing the wealth of their owners. There is a cable car (built by the germans, still in very good working order) which takes us up high. We admire the view and the fascinating graffitti.
So we walk, following our guide; he is a student doing theses walks for 'tips'. WE walk, following the twisting lanes and listen to the story of Valparaiso and its people. The tips ahve been well deserved.
